Bio
I was born in Birmingham, England in 1965. I was raised in Dudley (it's got a castle and everything!), and lived there until I was 18 years old, when I went to university in St Andrews, Scotland.

I graduated in 1987 with a degreee in Astronomy and Astrophysics with Physics, and again in 1989 with a Master's degree in Optoelectronic and Laser Devices. After that, I went to Sheffield University to study for a Ph.D., for which I completed the research but not the write-up.

After spending a year or so trying to decide what to do next, I took a job working ofr a small start-up company developing both electronics hardware, and image processing software. After a couple of years of that, I decided to look for a scientific programming job elsewhere, and whilst looking through The Guardian newspaper, I came across an advertisement for a company named "Visual Sciences". On closer inspection, they turned out to be a computer games developer, but they were based in Dundee, near St Andrews, so I applied, and 2 weeks' later I was there.

Whilst in Sheffield, I became good friends with an American exchange student named Laurie. On her return to the US, she hassled me to go visit until I finally agreed, and in March 1994, I spent a couple of weeks on holiday in Columbia, Maryland, staying with Laurie and her boyfriend (later husband!) Tim. Whilst there, Laurie introduced me to all her friends, including Diane, whom she had me whilst at the University of Maryland. I met Diane a few times thereafter, and we became casual friends. After 7 years, we finally realised that we should be together, and we were married on 21st July 2002, in North Scituate, Massachusetts (Near Boston). We travelled to the UK together a week later, where Diane also ended up working at Visual Sciences.

in January 2004, Diane and I were asked to go work in LA for a few months, and grudgingly agreed. Fortunately, it turns out that we like it so much out there (me more so than Diane), that we're going to move out semi-permanently (Semi-permanently because we reserve the right to flee back to the UK in horror if it all gets too much!).

Update: Of course, it all got rather crazy, and 12 months later, we're both living and working in the US on a "permanent" basis.
